Sheraton
Powerful and monumental, Sheraton was created as a sort of “gateway” into another dimension. The surreal effect of reversal is clearly a paradoxical defiance of gravity.
Designed by Luigi Serafini in the early 1980s, when Memphis began, Sheraton is a large mirror that stands on two black metal legs, resting on large circular bases. It is enclosed in a thick frame clad in decorative laminate with forcefully vivid colors.
Sheraton was exhibited in 2024 at the MART in Rovereto, as part of a large retrospective on its creator, highlighting his experience inside Memphis: a universe in which flamboyance and truth, irony and seduction, lightness and a surreal spirit coexist and mingle.
