Colon
Javier Mariscal designed the Colon table for the very first Memphis collection, dating back to 1981. The apparently unstable interlocks of the geometry and its proportions seem to defy the force of gravity.
Three multicolored horizontal planes slip over a tubular post – central, slightly sloping, in sky blue – to generate this eccentric but functional table that never fails to catch the eye.
The tops, arranged in a column, link back to pure geometric forms: the square, the circle and the triangle, enhanced by primary colors. Nevertheless, the “functionalist grid” is transformed by an aerodynamic spirit.
