Nilo

In 1983, Ettore Sottsass made a series of vases named for rivers – a clear reference to water – vertically stacking bizarre forms shaped in white porcelain, with a single touch of color. The form of the traditional ceramic vase is broken down and reassembled with interlocking parts, in an unstable balance. The effect is paradoxical and dynamic.

Hand painted white porcelain vase.
